My Dieting History

Hello,

My name is Lachlan I have struggled with my weight and body composition for years. I am 195cm tall and during high school finished at 120kg when I was 17 in 2013.

During the first Christmas holidays until march of 2014 I lost weight and got back down to 105kg. This short stint of weight loss did not last and I eventually got back up to 120 pretty quickly at the advent of starting uni. I put it down to sudden stress and dietary access and habits that were not conducive of fat loss. At the time I did not really notice I had regained.

The end of 2018 I was up to 132kg and I made myself a promise that I never wanted to be that fat again after looking at myself in the mirror. So over the coming 6 months I went from 132 down to 105kg using intermittent fasting aka the 16:8 diet.

On holiday at a beach I noticed however I was still pudgy and had mostly lost lean mass. I changed that diet and went up to 110kg and felt pretty good and maintained here for about a year.

After a few years, a change in job and studying full time I became a high school teacher and upon starting the job went from 105kg up to 137 in the space of 2 years. During this time I struggled with both the croissant diet and going into the carnivore diet. The carnivore diet with a complete flop for me I would always over eat and then binge on take away junk food mostly pizza and McDonalds.

I had been reading and understanding Brad's Fire in a Bottle Blog but I think my big problem was when I was not losing weight i kept changing things rather than getting a consistent habit and fixing those problems. I simply could not lose weight.

A few later 2025 rolls around and I decide no I need to lose fat. I felt horrible and did not like my own body. A horrible state to be in for anyone who has been there. I decide no I need to do something and I tried Cole Robinson's sugar diet to my amazement I did not gain weight. However, I did not lose weight and with my level of physical activity I wanted more protein and surprise surprise I started binging. Think sugar diet during the day 2500kcal of take out at night.... You can guess the outcome.

On the 5th of October 2025 I decided I need a diet that allows me to stay in a caloric deficit without feeling like I am dieting, lets me have a nice variety of foods, allows me to eat lunch with colleagues during lunch at work and not fast, have an adequate intake of protein, and be low in PUFA. The solution! The Croissant Diet again but this time I wanted to sort out some of the issues. So inspired by Brad at https://fireinabottle.net I looked to try again.
